Sanitary Sewer Main Flushing Programmed Maintenance

Sep 23, 2021

Corix Utilities will begin flushing Heritage Pointe sewer mains starting September 27, and continuing Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 4 PM until completion.

Affected areas are:

  • Heritage Lake Terrace
  • Summit Pointe Drive
  • Ridge Pointe Drive
  • Meadows Pointe Drive
  • Ranche Drive and Heaver Gate

This is part of regular preventative maintenance to ensure your sewer system is operating efficiently. Every effort will be made to minimize disruption and inconvenience to residents.

What to Expect

  • Toilets, sinks, and other appliances can still be used.
  • Sewer cleaning can create short-term nuisance odors. Odors can be cleared by running water down sink and bathtub drains, flushing toilets, and pouring a pail of water into basement floor drains.
  • Air pressure in the sewer can create noise in sewer pipes, and may cause water to splash out through toilets, sinks, and drains. Keeping toilet lids closed and sink drains plugged when not in use will help avoid spills.
  • If you have a backwater valve installed in your house, ensure that it’s free of debris and operating properly.
  • No chemicals are used in sewer main cleaning. High pressure water is used to loosen debris and flush pipes. A high-powered vacuum then removes debris from the pipe.

What is Sanitary Sewer Main Flushing?

Our crews use a high-pressure nozzle to flush water down the sewer. The dirt and debris are sucked up through a manhole by a large vacuum truck and disposed of. This flushing process keeps the sewer system operating efficiently and helps prevent future sewer backups by removing built-up debris, such as tree roots, dirt, sand, and grease.

Sewer main cleaning is also done for CCTV inspection work. These inspections allow us to see the condition of your sewer mains and make necessary repairs or replacements.

How You Can Help Maintain Your Sewer System

You can help keep your home’s sewer system, and your community’s, functioning properly by doing a few simple things.

  • Observe the 3 Ps of Flushing — only ever flush Pee, Poo, and Paper (toilet paper that is). Learn more from Patty Potty, our resident flushing expert.
  • Occasionally add water to sink and floor drains to prevent sewer gases from entering your home.
  • Check your plumbing vents each spring and fall for blockages, such as bird nests and leaves.
